Saughton Stories

Saughton Stories is a collection of books illustrated by students from eca, and written by people who have spent time in HMP Edinburgh. Amongst the titles are “Advice”, illustrated by Hannah Rye, “The Pigeon Fancier”, illustrated by Kristyna Litten, “The Jumble Sales”, illustrated by Rick Thomas, “Methadone”, illustrated by Nicola O’Byrne and “Dialysis”, illustrated by Sophie Warden., and "Dear John", illustrated by Chuck Ban Chan.

Atlas Book

As part of my dissertation I am looking at adaptation between animation/films and picture books, and have decided to make a picture book of my own based on a short animation. So this is a sneaky section of part of my book.

Dolls House

Inspired by all of the Toy and Childhood museums I've been going to lately here is a wee drawing of a doll's house. Something which maybe the subject of obsessional drawing.

I'm very excited to be the proud owner of these amazing Marc Boutavant stickers that I bought at the Seven Stories, a museum solely dedicated to children's story books.

Back to work

So its back to college and my final year already feels like its disappearing beneath me, beginning the year with editorials. This editorial and the two complementary vignette images are for an article reviewing the book 'Tormented Hope: nine Hypochondriac lives', by Brian Dillion. This book includes people such as James Boswell, Charlotte Bronte and Charles Darwin. The image above is particularly relating to the story of Daniel Paul Schreber, a politician who went 'insane' , believed that god wanted him to change into a woman and that benidictine Monks had found themselves inside his head, amogst other things.


One of the hypochondriacs included Florence Nightingale, who often complained of her illnesses, often taking work to her bed for long periods of time. Three images done, just one to go, as well as the issue of printing.

zebra crossing

A sketch done for the design of a Zebra crossing, for an editorial I am working on, also Zebra's are known for their pattern. Any suggestions for this would also be appreciated.

Procrastination

The product of putting off doing work and new pens. but i think i needed to get it out of my system before I start producing something of value in the sketchbook I may now have ruined.

What I wore Today

This is my latest post for Gemma Correll's new fantastic group called what I wore Today, for all us camera shy illustrators out there. And seen as though so many people have put up some great drawings Gemma has set up a new blog for the favourite ones here.

Recycled House.

This amazing house is made out of old found objects, is designed my Dan Philips and has really inspired me to do loads of house drawings. I particularity love the colours in this roof .

Strong

What is more strong than a house built on chicken legs?! Inspired by the Russian fairy tale I was told as a child. I decided that I would try and produce something digitally for a change, hope this has been a success.

Louis Roskosch

Found this work by Loius Roskosch today, and I found his characters so inspirational, the palette of colours he uses are right up my street. My particular favorite is this bear on a segway, which can also be bought as a sticker. More of Roskosh's work can be found here

impatience
